I was thrilled to have Southwest Art magazine use my image of Eagle Marsh Canal, 14 x 11, oil painting in their advertising banner for the Women Artists of the West's 56th Annual Nation Exhibition!
There is also a great article introducing the show with quotes from several of our members, including myself, about the WAOW organization. HERE is a link to the article
A dear friend loves growing flowers to cut. Every time we get together, she gives me a lovely bouquet from her garden. This was so cheerful and colorful!

Oklahoma skies and cloud formations are always an inspiration to me. This is the Osage Hills in a very broad view between Tulsa and Bartlesville. "Osage Sky" is available in my solo show "New Beginnings" at the Depot Gallery in Norman, OK.
The show is also online now! Follow this link to see all the works available.

Wildflowers is a new painting that is part of my solo show at The Depot in Norman, Oklahoma. It is also an example of a new direction I am exploring in my painting practice using cold wax medium with my oil paints.
After a period of isolation and self-evaluation during the pandemic, I began to search for a change and new challenges. I wasn’t satisfied with my status quo. I became intrigued with the use of cold wax which is beeswax with a small amount of solvent in it. This soft, paste-like medium is added to oil paint in up to a 50/50 mix. With cold wax, I gained a great variety of possibilities for paint application and building unique textures. This took me from realistic to less representational ways to portray my images. Cold wax gives a pearly luster and buttery feel to the paint. It lends itself to working in a few or many layers with tools beyond brush and palette knife. I am enjoying the element of surprise and excitement that this brings. Working in this less structured way has introduced a bolder use color and less defined forms.
Family Trio is a featured painting in my Solo Show titled "New Beginnings" at The Depot Gallery in Norman, OK. It will open July 9th and run through September 4, 2021. There will be 2 receptions held July 9 and August 13 in conjunction with the 2nd Friday Art Walk in downtown Norman.
Every time I start a new painting, I consider it a new beginning. My work for this solo show features a variety of traditional works and newer pieces that represent a new direction in my painting. My love of nature is always the driving motive for my subject matter. I am always exploring new, more expressive ways to depict it.
Whoosh! is an exciting new painting exploration of combining oil paint with cold wax medium.
Cold wax is added to the oil paint and gives a lovely buttery feel to the paint as it is applied. It also gives even opaque colors a transparency if applied thinly. The other beauty of the oil/cold wax combo is the ability to build up layers and textures which can be transformed by scratching into or adding more on top of. the possibilities are exciting to look forward to trying!
This painting is a celebration of color and movement!
On this morning, these trees were silhouetted against the dusty light behind them. I wanted to portray this hazy atmosphere that the road brings us into.
"Path to the Light” represents the silent secrets of the Arkansas Territory’s past. It also leads us into the unknown, but hopeful future. This painting will travel for 2 years to multiple venues as part of the Arkansas Territory Biennial Exhibition. Click here for more info about this show.
As a landscape observer and artist, I was attracted to the pattern this gushing water created as it rushed through the culvert and around the barely submerged rocks. It was my challenge to give life to this in oil paint. Another goal was to show the shiny surface of the rocks as water slid over them. The creek finally gets to rest and flow quietly after its tumultuous travels!
This painting is one of many currently at The Vault Art Space and Gathering Place in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the gallery owner kindly allowed the 3 person "Back Roads" show I am in to remain until the restrictions are over. The gallery is open by appointment.
